Run 04 · cut between June and September

Everything we
currently make.

Everything Veldhof currently makes, photographed on the person who owns it. Stock is a drawer in Kampen, not a warehouse, so when a line says two left it means two.

The three numbers under every frame are the only sizing that matters: lens width, bridge, temple length, in millimetres.

Take the pair you already own and read the inside of the left temple. If it says 48▫20▫140 and a Veldhof says 47▫21▫145, you will get on with that frame. A bridge two millimetres too wide slides; a temple ten millimetres too short pinches behind the ear by the afternoon. We would rather tell you a frame is wrong for you than sell it twice.

Nothing on this page is a stock photograph. Each person agreed to be shot in the frame they bought, in their own light, and they keep the picture. If you would rather not appear here, say so at the bench and we will not ask twice.

Before it reaches the drawer

Eleven days
in the tumbler.

A front leaves the mill with a flat, dead surface. It then spends eleven days in walnut shell and polishing paste, turning slowly, before anyone touches it with a file. That is most of the price and all of the difference between acetate that looks cut and acetate that looks grown.

Inside the workshop

Before you buy

What does delivery cost and how long does it take?

Free within the Netherlands and Belgium, €9 to the rest of the EU, €24 worldwide. Unglazed frames leave the workshop within two working days. If you have ordered lenses, add seven to ten working days for the lab in Apeldoorn.

Can I send a frame back?

Thirty days from the day it arrives, unworn outdoors and in its case. The prepaid label is already in the box, so there is nothing to print and nothing to claim back. Glazed prescription lenses are cut to you and cannot be returned, but we will re-glaze once at cost if the prescription was wrong on our side.

Can I try frames at home before I decide?

Yes — Five Frames Home. Choose five from the twelve, pay €5, and they arrive with plano demo lenses and a return label. Keep them seven days. The €5 comes off whatever you buy, and if you buy nothing we will still take them back without a word.

Will you glaze my own prescription?

Single-vision from €85, thinned 1.6 index from €125, varifocal from €265. Send a photograph of a prescription written in the last two years and your pupillary distance, or come in and we will measure it. Blue-filter and photochromic coatings are €45 each.

What happens when a hinge goes?

Post it to Geerstraat and we replace the hinge free, for as long as the frame exists. Snapped fronts we quote for, usually €60 to €110 depending on the colourway and whether the sheet is still in the rack.

Why does a colourway look different to the photograph?

Because block acetate is poured in batches and no two sheets of Burnt Tortoise are identical. We photograph every frame as it left the bench rather than rendering a swatch, so what you see is one real sheet, not an average of all of them.
